On Reliatel and IntelliPak Legacy (IntelliPak 1 and 2) units with BACnet, the out-of-service functionality was used to add and remove BAS points from the arbitration scheme. This implementation was unique to Trane and did not meet the BACnet standard’s intent for “Out-of-Service”. The BACnet standard’s intent was to use “Out-of-Service” as a troubleshooting and servicing feature. This is and will NOT be the case on the newer Symbio controlled units.
On the newer Symbio 700/800 controllers when placing a point out-of-service it will continue to be used in the arbitration scheme and use the fixed value assigned by the technician. “Out-of-Service” should not be used to clear point faults in the controller as the Symbio 700/800 controllers rely on point faulting to determine validity of the point. If a point is placed “Out-of-Service” to eliminate a point fault, the controller will think the point is valid and continue to use the out-of-service value assigned by the technician indefinitely. The Symbio 700/800 controllers use an entirely different style of arbitration that does not rely on the out-of-service feature.
On Symbio 800 controllers, technicians can delete BACnet points from the interface if it will not be used for unit operation. This will remove the point from the arbitration scheme and places it into a “Recycle Bin”. The intent for this feature is to remove unnecessary BACnet points from the interface to make it easier for 3rd party integrators to understand our equipment.

Instructions on how to Delete and Recycle Points in Symbio UI
Deleting points can be done with TU but point recycling can only be done through Symbio UI. The instructions below show steps for accomplishing both processes with Symbio UI after direct connecting to the controller and typing http://198.80.18.1 into the web browser.
Deleting Points
Deleting points is convenient for removing unwanted data from the controller communication
interface. The point is not permanently deleted; rather the point is simply moved to Recycled
Points.
All point overrides, priority array owners, and status are reset to factory settings.
To delete a point:
- Click Points in left navigation pane.
- Navigate to Analog, Binary, or Multistate points and select the point(s) using check box left of
name.
- Select Actions pull-down menu, then Delete > Yes – Delete to confirm the action. No – Cancel
to cancel action.
Recycled Points
Points that have been deleted from the controller interface are moved to Recycled Points. In this
location the points can be restored to the controller interface and used once again to communicate
data via BACnet®, MODBUS® or LonTalk®.
To view recycled points and restore points:
- Click Points in left navigation pane.
- Click Recycled Points to view all deleted points.
- To resort a point, click the box left of the point name, then click Restore.
