Issue:
When Trane Creative Solutions adds a UC controller (UC400, 600), a link/communication wire is installed when the unit ordered with a BCI.
Many technicians don’t understand the purpose of this wire or how the system level controller (Tracer / 3rd party) is made.
Resolution:
The UC and BCI are two different BACnet devices.
The UC and BCI each require a unique address on the network. The address for each device will be provided by the system integrator.
If you don’t know the baud rate or address setting, contact the system integrator. Let them know that the unit contains two BACnet devices and so they can provide two unique address values for each controller.
The system level control can wire to an open Link terminal on the UC. If another device is to be daisy chained from the unit, the wire leaving the unit will connect to the open link terminals of the BCI controller. If the unit is at the end of BACnet line, utilize the end-of-line termination built into the BCI.
Notes:
If wireless communication is being used, the BCI and UC each require a dedicated WCI.
Some UC controllers must be on the BACnet network as they’re used for communicating setpoints and other information from the BCI to the UC custom program.
In other cases, the UC control contains ‘nice to have’ information for the system integrator that is read only.
The UC may contain points that can be writable by the BACnet system. These points commonly contain 'BAS' in the point name.
Contact Trane Creative Solutions Technical Support Team with any questions about point availability and use of the communication link.
