Summary:
The UC400 was discontinued February 15, 2024 and replacement controllers are no longer being produced. As a solution for existing jobs with a failed UC400 controller, the Symbio 500 is a direct drop-in replacement.
Getting Started:
Tracer TU: Make sure you have the latest version of Tracer TU. The latest version is found at the link below.
Trane Controls Software & Firmware Downloads | Trane Commercial HVAC
PPS Configurator: The PPS Configurator is not available to people outside of Trane and is required to convert the legacy UC400 file format to one that’s accepted by the Symbio 500. The configurator download is found at the link below. You must be signed into the HUB to access/download this file.

Original .UC400Config: This can be saved off of the original controller by connecting via Tracer TU and selecting File > Save Controller Configuration As or selecting Ctrl + Shift + S. When saving the file, select a location on your PC where you can find it later (E.g. desktop).
If you can no longer connect to the controller, you may reach out to CSTTechSupport@Trane.com and one of our support engineers will send you a copy as it left the factory. Please note, it’s best to save a copy from the controller as it may contain site-specific programming. Have the information discussed in the article below when making your request.
BAS Comm Settings: If the original controller is integrated with the customers BAS, applicable BAS settings must be recorded from the original controller or they will need to be provided from the site integrator. The configuration will not save protocol settings and must be inputted into the new controller.
Converting with the PPS Configurator
Open the .UC400Config saved to your computer from the PPS Configurator.
With the file opened in PPS Editor, select your new hardware configuration (1.) and Symbio 500 (2.).
With the new controller type selected, device terminations become undefined. Select Yes to continue.
Define the I/O by selecting the … button to in the termination column.
Make the appropriate selection from the list. If you’re unsure what to select, refer to the as-built or open the original .UC400Config in Tracer TU to view the original I/O references.
Once you’ve completed your selections, select build and save the configuration to a location on your PC where you can find it later.
The process is complete and you’re ready to load the configuration onto the new Symbio 500. Load the configuration using Tracer TU:
- From the Utilities dropdown, select "File Transfer Utility"
2. Make sure the box is checked next to the Symbio 500 and click next.
3. Browse to the .S400-500Config file and click Open.
4. Verify the correct file is in the window, click on Next, then click on Start
