Issue:
The Symbio 800 can be replaced and firmware upgraded using TU software and the Symbio UI.
Resolution:
Reference the following procedure to program a new Symbio 800 in the event the original Symbio 800 shipped from factory is damaged and must be replaced.
With power off on both controllers swap the microSD card from the original factory controller into the new controller. This is important since a backup configuration file is stored within it.
Getting the correct firmware on your computer:
If you do not have a firmware file, you may obtain the file 1 of 3 ways.
a. TraneUpdater II (Trane Service Technicians)
b. Trane Controls Software & Firmware Downloads
c. https://tranetechnologies.sharepoint.com/sites/softwaredownloads/SitePages/Intellipak.aspx.
Remove the original Symbio 800 controller and replace with the new Symbio 800.
- NOTE: the USB cable alone cannot power a Symbio, external 24vdc is required.
Firmware upgrade using Tracer TU
- Once powered, connect to the new Symbio with Tracer TU.
- Go to "Utilities" and click on "File Transfer Utility".
- You will get a message to choose from the available device. The new Symbio controller will already be selected so click "Next".

Click "Browse" and go to file location that you the downloaded Symbio Firmware saved.

- Select the appropriate unit and click on the correct ".scfx" file, then click "Open".
- Click "Next" and then "Start".

Backup and Restore
- Once the Firmware file is loaded into the controller and with the USB cable still connected to the Symbio 800, open your internet navigator (Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge). Enter the following IP address 198.80.18.1 and click "Log in" (enter your credentials if needed).
- Click on "Backup and Restore"
- Go to the bottom of the page and click on "Restore from a backup present on microSD card". Select the backup file (.tgx) in the microSD card from the original Symbio 800 controller
- Once the file has been loaded, connect back to the Symbio 800 with TU and go to Configuration's tab. Ensure the information is correct (Tonnage, Voltage, Options, etc.)
Go to Binding View and make sure all the LLIDs are green and there are no red LLIDs or any LLIDs with a red X
- Go to Utilities and then click on "Controller Status" to verify the unit Model Number, Unit Serial Number and Sales Order number are correct
- If necessary, click on the "Edit" field on the top right corner of the "Configuration Summary" submenu and enter the correct information. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page
