Using Comm4 Adapter as a serial port
For this application configure the Comm4 adapter DIP switches for the RS-232 option. Refer to the adapter label with the DIP switch settings. That will enable the 9-pin serial port required. After setting the DIP switches, connect the adapter USB cable to your computer.
Connect the Mini- Monitor cable between the serial port and the mini-monitor port on the BCU or BMTB bridge. The minimonitor cable is composed of two parts, the 9-pin adapter and the RJ-12 cable. Part numbers for the Rover Comm4 kit and the mini-monitor cable are on image and also on the HUB Part numbers for 9-pin serial adapter, RJ-12 cable, and 25-pin adapter for Tracker, UPCM, CCP, and BCU
Note: On the Rover comm4 kit, do not use the black comm4 wire coming off terminal 1 & 2. That is for comm4 only. For this application you must use the serial option coming out of the 9-pin serial port.
Required Serial Adapter port number
From your computer go to device manager and double click on the ports to verify the port number assigned to your serial adapter. Port number information is required by the IP configuration utility to download.
Go to Control Panel>Device Manager.
Look for the USB serial port under Ports (Com & LPT)
Double click to open
Go to the Port Settings Tab
Double click the advance button to see the port number used.
