ReliaTel - Condenser Fan Control Logic
For units that have two single speed condenser fans, special control logic is designed to provide proper condenser head pressure control at different ambient conditions.
When the outdoor ambient drops below 60 degrees the second condenser fan (the one farthest away from the control box) will be turned off. When the outdoor temperature reaches 65°, the fan will once again restart.
Table 1. Condenser Fan Status per Ambient Temperature
OUTSIDE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE | CONDENSER FAN 1 | CONDENSER FAN 2 |
> 65 Degrees Fahrenheit | On | On |
Between 60 and 65 Degrees Fahrenheit | On | On when descending below 65, Off when rising above 60 |
< 60 Degrees Fahrenheit | On | Off |
TIP:
A quick way to see if outdoor temperature is keeping the condenser fan off is to pull the RTRM J8 plug. When the RTRM loses the outdoor temperature or thinks the outdoor air sensor has failed open it will automatically turn the 2nd condenser fan on.
If the fan comes on when you pull the RTRM J8, check the Outdoor Air Sensor using the attached "RTRM_RTOM Temperature Inputs.pdf" to see if it is reading correctly.
