Overview
The Symbio 700 platform supports multiple products including Odyssey, Precedent, Voyager 3 and Foundation, all supported by a single firmware. As part of a continuous enhancements, Trane releases 1-2 firmware releases for the Symbio 700 per year. The primary purpose of firmware updates are to introduce new features and resolve reported software-related issues. Adhering to the recommended guidelines ensures that firmware updates are conducted only when essential and avoids updates that offer minimal benefit.
Updating Firmware
Updating Symbio 700 Firmware requires a technician at the unit and utilizing Symbio Service and Installation App and a USB Flash Drive or Tracer TU. The process of updating the controller can be 5 minutes or more once the transfer has started. Updating the Symbio 700 firmware is not required every time a new version is available, refer to the When to Update Firmware section below.

When to Update Firmware
When Replacing a Failed Controller
Best practice is to update the firmware of the replacement controller prior to installation. Replacement controllers may have been stored for an extended period and could contain outdated firmware. Additionally, backups created with newer firmware versions are not compatible with controllers running older firmware and cannot be restored.
An example illustrating the necessity of firmware updates: Units utilizing A2L refrigerant require a minimum firmware version of V7.01.0016.
New Control Features and Enhancements
When a new firmware update is released, it often includes additional control features or improvements to existing control functionalities. These enhancements are designed to optimize the performance and operation of the equipment, potentially providing a better user experience for the customer.
An example of this is the ability to upgrade the license of a Symbio 700 from basic to advanced. This feature was not released until V6 of the Symbio 700.
Resolved Field-Reported Issues
Field-reported issues that have factory solutions are communicated through Service Alerts or Service Bulletins. In some cases, these corrective actions may require a firmware update. These corrected field reported issues can be viewed in the release notes, please refer to: Symbio® 700 Customer Release Notes
Instructed by Technical Support
Technical Support may recommend upgrading the firmware during troubleshooting of a persistent issue. Additionally, Technical Support may require the firmware to be updated prior to escalating a potential new field-reported issue.
