Purpose of This Feature
Beginning with Synchrony v6.4.24xxx, We have added options for how CPC handles a Chiller Communication Loss.
The Enhanced Communication Loss settings allow the CPC application to automatically respond when communication is lost with a running chiller. This ensures the chilled‑water plant continues delivering required cooling capacity, even if a chiller goes offline due to communication failure.
With these new options, technicians can define how and when the CPC should start a replacement chiller to maintain stable plant operation in mission‑critical environments.
Existing Behaviour:
CPC takes no action When the communication is lost with a running chiller. if the running chiller is lost the communication, CPC lets it to run on it's own. until the building load dictates the staging requirement.
Start Replacement Chiller on Communication Loss:
The CPC application will allow users to select the option to start an additional chiller upon communication loss for each chiller individually. This option can be configured through the CPC communication loss settings wizard. When communication is lost with a running chiller, the system will enable the next available chiller based on one of the following 2 methods and timings depending upon user configured options:
Standard CPC Replace Timing:
CPC will start the next available chiller on running chiller communication loss, within approximately 1 minute using current CPC timing for replacing a failed chiller on communication loss. This sequence to start an additional chiller on communication loss is a user configurable setting for each chiller in the plant and is selectable for each chiller per a user configurable option in the CPC Synchrony UI.
Additional Timing to Replace a Chiller on Communication Loss: (Communication Loss Proving Time)
This is a new CPC option using a user-defined timing range, which can be enabled/Disabled, adjusted from 1 to 30 minutes. Default as 2 Minutes. With the exception of efficiency based stating plants (1-5 minutes, default of 2). This is a communications restore delay timing setting that will start counting time once the typical 1-minute timing for CPC starting/replacing a chiller on communications loss has elapsed. The intent of this added delay is to allow users to configure additional time to allow for communications restoration of the chiller that was running, then lost communication. This ensures that the cooling capacity of the plant is maintained even if a chiller loses communication
Edit Settings (For Large Plants)
For sites with many chillers, the Edit Settings feature allows batch updates.
To use it:
- Select specific chillers or click Select All
- The Edit Settings button will appear
- Update the enabled/disabled options and timing values
- Apply the changes to all selected equipment
This reduces setup time in large‑scale installations.
