Overview:
Condensate overflow is an optional feature that helps prevent condensate from overflowing outside of the unit. The switch is installed in the condensate drain pan of the air-to-refrigerant coil near the outlet. Condensate overflow protection for the waterside economizer coil is field provided.
When condensate reaches the trip point, a general alarm is initiated, unit water valves (if present), and compressor(s) are disabled. The unit will remain in a halted state until the condensation returns to a normal level, and the switch returns to its normally closed state. The controller's condensate overflow diagnostic must be manually reset by cycling power to the unit.
If there is condensate backing up into the pan, confirm your drain is clear of obstruction, the correct trap is applied in the field, and the unit and field condensate line is properly installed and sloped. See the unit IOM for trap installation details.
Troubleshooting:
- The condensate switch is normally closed with a dry pan. Disconnect the wires from the switch and test continuity while moving the switch to ensure it opens and closes as expected.
- Blow the condensate drain line with compressed air or nitrogen.
- Disassemble fittings as needed to restore flow.
- Pour water in the pan and verify flow at the building drain.
- Ensure the trap is primed. A dry condensate trap can cause air to be sucked into the condensate drain tubing leading to switch flutter and a false condensate overflow trip.
- Single compressor units, remove the switch wiring from the control and test continuity on the plug while moving the switch up and down. In the up position, the switch should close / read continuity. Down it should be open / read OL.
- Dual compressor units have a switch wired into a relay, and normally open contacts from the relay wire to the deluxe control to shut down compressor in the event of overflow. Inspect the float wiring to the relay, remove the wires going to the relay coil and ensure the contacts close when power is applied by checking continuity at the contacts of the relay.
Some units have factory quick connect plugs going to the relay and condensate switch. Inspect the plugs if continuity isn't measured with the switch in the closed position.
