Issue:
Communicating with a VariTrac II CCP
Resolution:
Baud rate of the Hyperterminal secession must match what is set in the CCP.
Additional Hyperterminal port settings are 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bits and Xon/Xoff for flow control. Don't forget CAPS LOCK! The commands are M (menu) S (select) L (list).
If unsure of the baud rate configured in the CCP, dip switch S2-7 on the CCP can be turn on which locks the baud rate of the CCP to 1200. Cycle power to the CCP and connect with HyperTerminal
Needs DB-9 female adapter (part number 3591-4262) and an RJ-12 cable (part number 3591-4260). Reference VariTrac II Operators guide VADA-OG-2.
You can test the RS-232 connection by jumping out pins 2 and 3 on the serial adapter when HyperTerminal is open. Press and hold any letter or number and it will appear on the screen if the connection is good.
Â
There is no Ethernet LAN connection to VariTrac II. You must connect directly with HyperTerminal. The new Varitrac v12 software does not work with the old CCP II.
Notes:
Aftermarket serial port connectors on laptop may not work. Always use Rover comm 4 adapter, set for RS-232 connection, if possible.
