Issue:
Are Operator Displays for the Tracer MP580, Tracer Summit BCU, Tracker (BMTK), VariTrac CCP or any other product with the touch screen interchangeable?
Resolution:
There are two primary parts to the Operator Display hardware:
1.The display itself, with a touch screen: This is the hardware that the operator reads and touches. This part is the same for all products.
2.The circuit board controlling the display: This is the hardware that powers and runs the display. The host controller connects to the display through this hardware. This board can be manufactured in 3 different versions (by depopulating components on the circuit board). The table below summarizes the three different versions of the board.
Version | Host Controllers | Description |
A | BCU and Service Part | Includes extra memory |
B | AHU, CCP, MPC | Includes time clock/no extra memory |
C | Tracker BMTK, Portable | No time clock/no extra memory |
Using an incorrect Display with any of the controllers may cause the display to be slow or limited but should not cause any harm and may be very useful for emergency replacement or troubleshooting situations. A detailed discussion follows on the consequences of using the wrong display on each type of controller.
Building Control Unit (BCU):
Specified to use type A, extended memory. This may be used in the future to cache bitmaps, but this has not yet been implemented. If the memory is NOT present, it would merely slow down display of large bitmaps.
Doesn't care if there is a clock on the display, and won't use one if present.
Can use any flavor of display.
Tracker (BMTK): (Not Tracer Summit compatible):
Doesn't care if there is extended memory, and won't use it if present. If caching is added in the future, could use the memory if present, just like the BCU. Doesn't care if there is a clock on the display, and won't use one if present.
Can use any flavor of display.
Tracer MP580/581
Doesn't care if there is extended memory, and won't use it if present. If caching is added in the future, could use the memory if present, just like the BCU. Needs a clock only if scheduling is desired. Could test for presence of the clock on the display, and show a warning on the screen if clock is required but not present.
VariTrac CCPIII: (VariTrac CCPIII is not Tracer Summit compatible):
Doesn't care if there is extended memory, and won't use it if present. If caching is added in the future, could use the memory if present, just like the BCU. Needs a clock only if scheduling is desired. Could test for presence of the clock on the display, and show a warning on the screen if clock is required but not present.
AH540/541:
Doesn't care if there is extended memory, and won't use it if present. If caching is added in the future, could use the memory if present, just like the BCU. Needs a clock only if scheduling is desired. Could test for presence of the clock on the display, and show a warning on the screen if clock is required but not present.
Please note that eventually Trane GCS plans to have a version or versions of the display that support complex characters. This will require additional Flash memory (the board is already pre-designed to support this future feature). .

Other Question/Problem/Cause Statements:
- Can a user interchange Operator Displays for the Tracer MP580, Tracer Summit BCU, Tracker (BMTK), VariTrac CCP or any other product with the touch screen? They appear to be identical.
