Issue:
How to replace a Comm5 (LonTalk) Device on a Tracker BMTK
Resolution:
Instructions for Tracker Device Replacement - document also attached to this article
Replace must be done at the operator display; it cannot be done using the software.
If the procedure in the link above is not followed exactly, it may not work. If this is the case, use the Tracker workstation software to back-up the data base. Then, restore the Tracker to factory defaults. All configuration of the Tracker will be lost including Schedules, Reports, Trends, and Binary Output Programming. The Tracker will rediscover the LonTalk link. If there are no communications problems it will discover all the neuron IDs currently on the link. This will include the neuron ID of the new device, and all the old devices except the one that is being replaced. The Tracker will build a new Lontalk database from scratch. At this point the new neuron ID is in the database (this is good), the replaced neuron ID is not in the database (also good), and the configuration of the Tracker is as it comes from the factory with no schedule etc. (not as good). However, the backed-up database made previously contains this configuration information, so restore the back-up. The Tracker will notice that the neuron IDs in the back-up do not match the neuron IDs found on the link. It will ask how to resolve the differences. At this point all the correct neuron IDs will be in the database, none of the replaced neuron IDs will be in the database, and the configuration will be restored.
This procedure will always work unless there are issues with the communications link or with some device. If it does not work it indicates there are other, possibly more serious, problems.
