Issue:
Multiple Trackers can share a single incoming phone line

An inexpensive switching device can be used to allow more than one Tracker to use the same incoming phone line. Each Tracker still needs to have a modem. This provides a simple solution where there are several Trackers at a site and remote connection is needed. Command Communications makes two devices that have been tested informally and are reported to work. They are the CommSwitch 5500 (up to 3 trackers) and the CommSwitch 7500 (up to 4 trackers). These both connect to the incoming line, answer an incoming call, and direct the call to an end device. They are designed to switch lines for things like an answering machine and fax but they work for Trackers just as well. When calling with the Tracker PC software it may be necessary to include commas in the dial out number to allow time for the switch to answer and direct the call. There will also be a code that is added to the number that directs calls to a specific Tracker. These products are inexpensive (the CommSwitch 5500 is about $50, the 7500 about $125) and are available at places like Best Buy and Office Depot. Other similar devices from other manufactures are available.
