Issue:
Condenser fan variable speed drive fault for a JCI drive
Resolution:
RTAA 70-125 ton chiller and RTCA 70-125 ton condenser
Communication between the respective circuits compressor module and the VFD are done via the P9 or P10 connector on the VFD. If there is a problem with one of the signals on the connector, the compressor module may cause the problem. To verify if the compressor module is the problem, you could physically swap the position of the compressor modules. It is important to verify the overload switch settings (SW2) are changed to reflect how they are prior to the swap if the compressors are different sizes. Additionally, the IPC Address Switch will need to be changed to reflect how they are prior to swap as well.
Refer to RLC-SVD03A-EN, starting on page 80, for additional troubleshooting information.
Note: After following all the proper wiring and troubleshooting checkouts, the VFD may need to be replaced.
Notes:
If the chiller does not have the low ambient option (variable speed drives) and it is enabled in the microprocessor, this diagnostic will be generated. Access the Service Settings menu, scroll down to the Machine Configuration (after entering password +-+-+-) portion of the menu and disable Variable Speed Fan, Circuit 1 & 2.
The JCI drive is obsolete and has been replaced with the Danfoss TR-170. Contact Trane Technical Support for documentation related to the upgrade.

Other Question/Problem/Cause Statements:
- Condenser fan variable speed drive fault?
- New VFD will not run fans?
- VFD failure
- VFD fault
- Condenser fan variable speed drive fault, both circuits.
Facts:
- Replaced the VFD and still has the diagnostic
- Bypass the VFD and the fan motor runs fine
- Checkout procedure suggests changing out VFD
- All wiring checked for proper termination
- Checkout procedure in RTAA-SB-9 and/or RLC-SVD03A-EN were followed
