Symbio 700 Firmware Update for Unit Controller Module

Navigate to the Trane® Controls Software & Firmware Downloads page
Once on the site click on the Blue + to expand the Package Units & Split Systems with Symbio™ 700 section.
* Once you have expanded the section you should see the following download buttons *
If you are using the Phone App or the Onboard Interface download the file to a USB Flash Drive.
Note: The USB drive needs to 32g or smaller and should be formatted as FAT32. - How-to-format-USB-drive-to-FAT32
1. Firmware Update Using The Phone App:
With the unit and the controller powered, insert the USB storage device into the USB Host connector (J2) in the top left corner of the Symbio 700 unit controller.
- Connect to Symbio 700 UC using the Phone App.
- Navigate to the “Tools” menu of the mobile app.
- Select “Update Firmware”.
Navigate to the appropriate firmware file that is located on the USB flash drive and select it.
Note: The Symbio should find it for you on the flash drive.
Click Update Firmware to initiate the process, and UPDATE in the Confirm Firmware Update dialog box.
NOTE:
The Firmware Update process may take 3-5 minutes once initiated. You will be disconnected from the controller, and part way into the process the LEDs will go out on the Symbio Board, this is normal.
- Watch the Symbio 700 On-Board display, it will display the following text. Validating FW, Decrypting FW, Boot Rec, Recovery, Validating FW, Decrypting FW, Updating BLE, Updating FW, Updating Kernel, Updating DT, Updating Boot1dr, Updating Recovery, then Update Success.
Then the Symbio 700 Reboot will display Load Field then Boot Field...and you're done. Symbio 700 Ready.
After the firmware update has been completed, power down the system and remove your USB Flash Drive. You should see this when you connect back up with the Phone App.
Note: You will see the version that the unit controller was updated.
2. Firmware Update Using The Onboard Interface:
With the unit and the controller powered, insert the USB storage device into the USB Host connector (J2) in the top left corner of the Symbio 700 unit controller.
A. Click the home icon and scroll down
B. Scroll down to the Utilities menu and press ✔
C. Once in the Utilities menu, the screen will display “About”, scroll down until “Firmware Update” is displayed, press ✔
D. The top of the display will show the file on the flash drive (the file name will scroll left to right), press ✔
E. The display will ask “Are you sure?”, scroll down to “Yes”, press ✔
F. The display will then show “Firmware Update Performing”, DO NOT CYCLE POWER OR REMOVED THE FLASH DRIVE UNTIL THE ENTIRE UPDATE PROCESS IS COMPLETE!
G. The display will then update to show the update status:
H. At the end of the update before the auto reboot, the display will read “Update Success”
I. The Symbio700 will start an automatic reboot and is complete when the display reads “Symbio 700 Ready”
Note: Highly recommended to update the firmware using the Symbio Phone App or Tracer TU.
3. Firmware Update Using Trane® Tracer TU:
A. Click on the utilities tab and go to file transfer utility
B. Click the next button
C. Click the browse button
D. Choose and open the firmware version
E. Confirm the selection and press next
F. Click the start button
G. Transferring started
H. Transferring in progress
When the transfer is in progress the Symbio 700 UC will display the following
I. Transfer Successful
The Symbio700 will start an automatic reboot and is complete when the display reads
“Symbio 700 Ready”
J. You can confirm the firmware updated version under the Controller Status Tab > Controller > Product Version
