Issue:
The Copeland Digital Scroll Compressor is making a lot of noise or sounds like it's short cycling every few seconds.
Resolution:
The excessive noise or sound interpreted as a short cycle is often times the normal sound the compressor produces as it loads and unloads. The digital scroll compressor comes equipped with a solenoid valve that turns on and off in order to trim compressor cooling capacity as the unit approaches temperature setpoint.
Every time the compressor loads and unloads, the tone of the compressor changes. As the compressor loads and unloads, the contactor remains pulled in. When unloaded, the solenoid energizes which lifts the upper scroll plate to stop refrigerant flow. When the compressors is in the unloaded phase, suction and discharge pressures will begin to equalize and motor amps will drop. When the compressor loads, the solenoid energizes, the scroll plate drops, and the refrigerant flow begins.
For sound sensitive applications where sound variation may be a problem, Emerson recommends use of a sound blanket for the digital compressor and has identified the following supplier of custom fit sound blankets:
