Issue:
Low Noise Fans
Resolution:
The low noise fans reduce chiller sound levels by roughly 1-2 dba in the lower octave bands. Even though 3 dBa is a doubling of power, the threshold for the human ear to tell the difference in sound levels is 3 dBA.
Sound attenuation on the compressors is the real deal as this attenuates the "tonal" frequencies of screw compressors. Humans pick up on tonal frequencies much easier than overall sound. Thus, compressor attenuation is truly a better "bang for the buck".
In addition, when the RTAC was designed, the standard fan was 3-4 dBa quieter than the old RTAA fan. That means the standard RTAC fan is 3-4 dba quieter than our fan on the 70 - 125 RTAA. So, in certain terms, the standard RTAC fan is a "low noise fan", just not the lowest one we have.
The RTAC option for low noise fans include blades that are 30% glass filled/coupled black UV stabilized polypropylene.
Refer to RLC-PRB009-EN for specific sound ratings.
