Issue:
Replacement Rotary Screw Compressor
Resolution:
Rotary screw compressors are shipped from the factory without oil. A tag is attached to the compressor stating, "Notice Contains No Oil".
A good service practice when installing a helical rotary screw GP compressor (35-60 tons) or Intermediate (70-100 tons) is to add a small amount of oil before starting.
For GP compressors (35-60 tons)
- Relieve the nitrogen holding charge
- Remove the suction blank -off flange
- Remove the suction screen strainer
- Pour to 1 pint (and no more) of OIL00031 into the suction cavity
- Replace suction screen
- Bolt the suction line to the compressor
- Use a hand-oil pump and access the oil fitting on the front of the compressor to fill the internal oil filter
- Prime oil lines
For Intermediate compressors (70-100 tons)
- Relieve the nitrogen holding charge
- Remove the suction blank-off flange
- Remove the suction screen strainer
- Pour 1 to 2 pints (and no more) of OIL00031 into the suction cavity
- Replace the suction screen strainer
- Bolt the suction line to the compressor
- Prime the external oil filter with hand oil pump using the fitting on service valve
