Issue:
Compressor Motor NEMA Rating
Resolution:
Scroll and Screw compressor motors are a definite purpose motor applied to Trane's specific requirements and do not fall into a NEMA classification.
In general purpose open motors, NEMA refers to a design type A, B, C or D which have to do with the motor starting current and torque characteristics.
NEMA characterizes the insulation system as to its temperature rating as classes A, B, F or H. Trane scroll and screw compressor motors use some materials that are class B in some sizes and class F in other sizes, but again does not specifically follow a NEMA requirement.
NEMA also specifies motor frame sizes and Trane scroll and screw compressors are not built at standard open motor frame sizes.
