Topic: High Motor Winding Temperature RTAE
Discussion:
- From Diagnostic List - Any of the compressor's motor winding temperature sensors is seen to be beyond the winding rated temperature of 265°F (129.4°C).
Solution:
To confirm that there is a faulty motor winding temperature sensor; we recommend you obtain a Chiller Service Report, DataRecorder Files, Default File, Datalog File. Review the files to confirm temperatures exceed the trip point listed above. Determine if the issue is just a faulty sensor, two sensors, wiring, connections, or failed compressor.
> If a failed compressor is confirmed, leading to this diagnostic...replace the compressor.
> If there are wiring issues, correct the wiring.
> If there is a sensor issue; reading incorrectly, and ALL of the other sensors are reading correctly, there are options to take:
- Disconnect the failed sensor and place an external 110.0 Ω ½-watt resistor across the Wind Temperature Sensor LLID Input. You will still have other sensor working; and the resistor will ensure the control system is satisfied.

Disconnect the faulty sensor and change the following settings in the chiller using Tracer TU
- UC800 Controls: While connected to the chiller with Tracer TU, proceed to the Utilities tab, then follow the dropdown menus to Equipment \ Field Startup \ Features Settings Circuit xx.
- Symbio800 Controls: the setting can be found in Level 4 Gains and Start Sequence
- Default setting is Warning
- Change from Warning to NONE
- Note: If you DO NOT disconnect the sensor and just change the setting to NONE, the LLID/Sensor Input will still detect the incorrect Winding Temperature reading and call out the fault.

- There is not a field provided method to physically replace a Winding Temperature Sensor in a GP4 compressor. ( It is physically impossible to embed a new sensor in the motor windings. )
