Issue:
Is pump control required for CGAM Chillers?
Resolution:
CGAM Chillers Only:
The chiller has the ability to control the chilled water pump, but it is not required. However, if the microprocessor calls for a pump to start and water does not flow, the evaporator may be damaged catastrophically. It is the responsibility of the installing contractor and/or the customer to ensure that a pump will always be running when called upon by the chiller controls.
In order for Freeze Protection to be available, it is important not to configure the chiller for "No Pump Control", even if the chiller is not controlling the chilled water pump. Configure the chiller for one of the selections below.
- Connect Techview (CH530 Controls) or Tracer TU (Symbio 800 Controls) to the chiller and go into Configuration View.
- Select the appropriate Tab to access Evaporator Pump Control.
- Set it to one of the following for the output to be active if chiller is not controlling the pump or if the chiller is controlling the pump set it accordingly.
- one pump fixed speed (Single Pump Fixed Speed)
- one pump with an inverter on pump (Single Pump Variable Speed)
- two pumps fixed speed (Dual Pump Fixed Speed); Controls will rotate between the pumps
- two pumps with an inverter on pumps (Dual Pump Variable Speed)
NOTE: If the CGAM unit has a factory pump package, the selection for Evaporator Pump Control MUST be set to "Dual Pump Variable Speed".
