During factory testing of units, some discharge line ball valves were found that closed during normal operation of the chiller. The ball valve manufacturer has made a design enhancement to keep the valve from closing during normal operation of the chiller. The valves are now shipped with a clip that locks the stem in the opened position. Along with the new clip, a new cap has also been introduced to fit over the clip and properly seal when tightened.
Notes:
• Do not attempt to open or close the valve with the clip in position over the valve stem. Remove the clip when the valve needs to be exercised, and replace the clip once the valve in the normal operating position.
• Take care not to lose the clip when removing the valve stem cap, as the clip can also stick inside the cap when removing the cap.
Corrective Action
- All units now ship with the clip installed.
- If a ball valve that closes during normal operation is discovered, install clip and cap to correct the problem.
- See Table 1 for part numbers.
