Issue:
Evaporator Solution Flow Loss - Brazed Plate heat exchanger
NOTE: This solution is for CGAF chiller built after May 2003
Resolution:
Diagnostic: Evaporator Solution Flow Loss
- This case only applies to chillers built since 5/03 (10th digit of model number is H-Z).
- If the chiller was built prior to 5/03 (10th digit of model number is A-G), look at this Article instead: Evaporator Solution Flow Loss - Shell and Tube heat exchangers
This diagnostic means that the chiller thinks that the flow switch is stuck in the closed position or shorted out.
If the chiller is controlling the pump:
- If the chiller is controlling the pump, the flow switch cannot be bypassed. The flow switch is the primary protection against flow loss.
- When the chiller opens the pump output, the flow switch should open.
- If the switch does not open by the time the pump output is due to close again then this diagnostic will be seen.
- The remedy for this diagnostic is to correctly apply the flow switch or to repair/replace the switch if it is properly applied.
If the chiller is not controlling the pump:
- If the chiller is not controlling the pump, this diagnostic should not ever be seen.
- If it is, the chiller is set up improperly.
- To fix it, at the Human Interface press SETUP, and scroll to General Unit Functions Setup Submenu.
Press ENTER. Scroll to Default Chiller Solution Pump Mode, change from AUTO to ON.
Important Note:
DO NOT BYPASS THE FLOW SWITCH INPUT! Severe equipment damage may result if the flow switch is bypassed and the water pump fails.
