How to rebuild a BCI controller
Resolution:
The BCI controllers are a gateway device, that is they translate between a proprietary bus protocol on the UC (Chiller or rooftop) to a BACnet protocol. BCIs do not contain any of the programming, they only pass information (Setpoints) into the equipment via output points and pull information from input points.
You will need to rebuild the points in the BCI if any of the following have occurred.
- Any wire jumpers or dip switches have been changed on any Reliatel board module
- Any Reliatel boards have been added or removed from the RTU
- Any modifications have been made to change to RTU configuration
- You've previously restored a backup file to the BCI (this should never be done)
- Points exist in BCI that shouldn't (or points missing that you'd expect)
- The unit was modified by Trane Creative Solutions (or factory custom mod was made)
Remember that you need to write down the following before you clear the controller
The following should be written down if rebuilding or replacing a controller:
- Name
- Baud
- Device ID
- Units
- What output points are in/Out of Service
Steps for rebuilding the BCI:
- Turn disconnect off to unit
- Clear the BCI controller from Tracer TU
- Set units when after reset when prompted
- Disconnect TU and pull the USB cable
- Turn the unit disconnect back on
- Wait 120 seconds for the BCI to generate a new set of BACnet points. Do not short cycle power to unit. Do not try to do anything else during this 2 minutes. If the point generation process does not go correctly, the template will be corrupt and the BCI will not auto install on the SC or SC+.
- Plug the USB cable back in and connect with Tracer TU
- Enter name
- Enter Baud Rate
- Enter Device ID
- Put points back in service.
- If the BCI was installed in a Tracer SC, log into Tracer SC, then from the devices page select the BCI and refresh the device.
