Issue:
Entering Evaporator Water Temperature
Resolution:
Pueblo built evaporators are designed for a maximum entering water temperature of 108 deg F (42 C). Temperatures above 108 can cause warping of the polypropylene baffles in DX evaporators (RTAA, RTWA, RTUA, CGWD, CCAD, and EVP) and temperatures above 130 deg F (54 C) can cause relief valves to "lift".
CGAM, ACSA, ACX Maximum temperature is 125 deg F (52 C).
RTAE, ACRA, ACRB, RTAC, and RTAF Maximum entering water temperature is 108F (42 C) for initial water temp for pull down. It is also the maximum temperature for water running through the evaporator when the chiller is off. Maximum entering water temperature for stable operation should not be higher than 88F (68F + 20F).
PUEBLO AIR-COOLED CHILLERS:
The easiest way to determine is by running a selection in TOPSS, based on leaving water temperature AND minimum flow rate for the chiller selected. The output will show the maximum entering water temperature.
Water temperatures exceeding these values can cause relief valves to open.
Maximum water temperature unit off
CGAM - 125°F
ACS/ACX - 125°F
ACR/RTAC/E/F - 108°F
RTAA/RTWA/RTUA/CGWD/CCAD - 108°F
- Temperatures above 108 can cause warping of the polypropylene baffles in DX evaporators
Maximum water temperature start up
CGAM - 125°F
ACS/ACX - 125°F
ACR/RTAC/E/F - 108°F
Maximum water temperature sustained
90°F for all air-cooled chillers
