Issue:
Crankcase/Oil Heaters
Resolution:
Crankcase and oil heaters must be energized for at least 24 hours prior to starting a compressor. The reason for this is not because the oil temperature is critical, but because heating the oil drives off any refrigerant and ensures that a higher concentration of oil will be avaliable to the bearings and rotor surfaces.
The most critical start for a compressor is the first one it sees. Therefore, this requirement should not be compromised.
Crankcase/Oil heaters are powered by the modules and do not require special field wiring.
