Issue:
Do we have a remote panel?
Resolution:
- A remote panel was available for RTAA, RTWA, and RTUA
- A remote panel is NOT availalbe for the RTAC, CGAM, RTAE, RTAF, RTWD, ACR, and RTHD.
The remote panel for the RTAA, RTWA, and RTUA had the capability of everything that the unit display does except for the service menu. It can also be used with up to 4 RTAA's.
The RTHD, RTWD, CGAM, RTAC, RTAF, or RTAE do not have the remote panel option. The chiller can be connected to a BAS system through hardwire points, LonTalk, or Tracer Summit. The RTAE and RTHD are also available with Modbus interface due to the UC800 controller.
On chillers with the CH530 controller, an alternate option is to have a computer connected to the DynaView display through the RS232 port. The computer can download TechView from http://www.trane.com/commercial/DesignAnalysis/Techview.aspx and the operator will be able to view and change settings much like at the display. Another option is to connect the chiller to a BCU and mount it remotely. Tracer SC with a computer can also be used for a remote display/local chilled water plant control.
For the RTAA 70-125 ton chillers, a 1U7 buffer module along with the 1U2 options module will be needed. For installation instructions, refer to RTAA-IOM-4A, page 53.
Notes:
For information on the cable used to connect a computer to the CH530, see Serial (CH530) to USB Cable. And since most current computers no longer come with a serial port, see TechView cable for information on a USB to serial adapter.
If the chiller is connected to the DynaView display through the RS232 port, there are some things to consider on the distance between the chiller and the computer with TechView.
There isn't a specification for the maximum distance between the computer and the chiller. There have been successful installations out to 100' from the chiller and it has been tested as far as 200' away. It is important to keep in mind that there are many electronic components on-site which can cause "noise" and interfere with the signal. These items will need to be taken into account and it might require some testing and experimentation on site to identify the maximum distance for the specific application.
