Issue:
Can I use UPS on my chiller?
Can I provide power to just one circuit with a generator?
Rapid Restart
Genset not big enough
Resolution:
Rapid Restart and using a UPS to the chiller controller.
UPS powering controls to reduce reboot time
-
WILL reduce reboot time:
- RTAC (CH530) with mechanical starters (YDS, XLS)
- RTHD-YDS (CH530 or UC800)
- RTWD (CH530)
- CGAM (CH530)
-
WILL NOT reduce boot time (and may cause latching diagnostic):
- RTAE (UC800)
- RTAF (UC800)
- RTHD-AFD (UC800)
- RTAC (UC800) with AFD retrofit
Notes:
If customers do not apply an appropriately sized generator; the customer can power the entire unit, but lock out one circuit via the unit display (that means the circuits are powered, but not allowed to run via the controls). Controls diagnostics will result if the entire unit controls are not powered.
Local codes may prohibit generator sizing less than chiller nameplate minimums.

Other Question/Problem/Cause Statements:
- UPS and power to one circuit
- Pueblo chiller and Rapid Restart
- UPS on chiller controller for faster reboot
