Issue:
Where is the best place to take an oil sample?
Resolution:
The best place to pull an oil sample to be sent out for analysis is from the oil separator of the circuit or chiller. The sample should be in sealed container and sent off as soon as possible.
Standard practice is to send oil analysis samples in a sealed glass container; however, this can result in samples being lost or destroyed. Samples may be sent in a sealed plastic container; however the samples need to be sent and processed ASAP so contamination does not occur while using plastic containers.
Notes:
A secondary place to pull the oil would be off the bottom of the compressor once it has been isolated.
If a customer is trending a chiller; ALL samples need to be taken from the same location.
