Issue:
Do I need to recover the refrigerant to replace the EXV?
Resolution:
RTAC:
- The refrigerant does NOT need to be recovered to replace the EXV
- The condenser and evaporator are sized such that they are capable of holding the entire charge.
- The recovery equipment can be used to do a liquid transfer from the low side to the high side.
- Close the liquid line angle valve and the discharge service valve prior to moving the refrigerant.
- This procedure would be used if the chiller is not capable of doing a service pumpdown.
Notes:
This is only true for package units as additional refrigerant is needed to compensate for extra piping on remote evaporator units.
